Company History

Established in 1987 B.W. Dexter II, Inc. performed mainly small residential and commercial masonry projects throughout northeastern Connecticut. The integrity and work ethic demonstrated could not be matched by any of Dexter's competitors. Dexter has been continually recognized by ENR magazine as one of the top masonry contractors in the country, typically the only New England contractor to be listed. As the company grew, it continued to build bonding limits from the first project bonded at $343,000 to its current bonding program of 60 million dollars. Dexter's reputation for high quality and being able to meet demanding schedules was not only recognized by the contractors they were working for but also by the men and women hired to perform the labor intensive projects. It soon became known that to work for Dexter an individual had to be above average and believe in the ideals on which the company was founded. Dexter is signatory to the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local I Connecticut, the Laborers International Union of North America, and the Iron Workers' Locals 1 and 424.

The high standards put forth enabled Dexter to continually grow even in the recession of the early 1990s. With economic growth in the industry and a large client base, by 1994 Dexter was the largest masonry contractor in Connecticut. Dexter still maintains this position with annual sales in the calendar year 2004 of 34.6 million dollars. Dexter has been continually recognized by ENR magazine as one of the top masonry contractors in the country, ranking 8th in 2005, the only New England contractor in the top ten. Bruce W. Dexter II, President and founder, recognized early on that in order to meet the needs of his customers and enable the company to steadily grow, that he would have to hire knowledgeable individuals with industry experience and learn from them. This has proven to be vital to the company's success. Most of Dexter's approximate 300 employees have been with the company for at least seven years. This is remarkable in an industry that typically has a high turnover rate.

Having established such a strong company base and solid reputation in the industry Dexter has become known as a company that can be called upon to meet demanding project needs such as the Foxwoods Resort and Casino, the Mohegan Sun Project Sunburst Expansion, and various educational facilities with fast track schedules.
